How Driyu Protects Privacy During Pet Recovery
A plain-language explanation for anyone who scans a Driyu pet tag or visits a lost pet recovery page.
When you scan a Driyu tag or visit a lost pet page, you see a recovery profile — not the owner's full account. Here's what that means.
What you can see
- Pet name, photo, breed, and identifying details
- Owner name, phone number, and email — so you can reach them quickly
- City and state (general area — not a street address)
- Emergency contact info the owner chose to share
- Medical alerts the owner marked as visible during scans
What is never shown
- Home address or street-level location
- Medical records beyond owner-selected scan alerts
- Account credentials or billing information
- Other pets or household details
If you report a sighting or send a message
Your information is shared only with the pet owner. Driyu does not sell, share, or use finder-submitted data for any purpose other than pet recovery.
Why is owner contact info visible?
When a pet is lost, every minute matters. Driyu is recovery-first by default — owner contact information appears on recovery pages so finders can reach the owner directly and help bring their pet home safely.
Owners can change what appears publicly. From their dashboard, each owner can hide their phone, email, city, state, or emergency / recovery contacts list. A safety rule keeps at least one direct contact path visible so finders always have a way to reach the owner.
What can the owner control?
The pet owner can hide any of these from the public recovery page at Profile → Public Recovery Visibility in their dashboard:
- Phone number
- Email address
- City
- State
- Emergency / recovery contacts list
Defaults are visible. The owner's pet name, photo, breed, species, color, identifying details, and lost-mode instructions are not controllable in this setting — those help a finder identify and care for the pet. The owner's first and last name also remain visible so a finder knows whose pet they have found. Medical alerts are controlled per-alert on the pet's medical record (not on this Visibility setting).
The Contact Owner and Report Sighting forms on every recovery page are always available, even when the owner has hidden their direct contact details. Those forms route messages and sightings to the owner through Driyu notifications.
Driyu enforces these settings on its servers, so fields the owner has hidden are not returned by Driyu's public recovery payloads. If you share a Driyu link on a social platform, that platform may still show an older preview for a while — those previews live outside of Driyu and refresh on their own schedule.
What Driyu records when a tag is scanned
Driyu logs a timestamp, general country-level region, and basic device category (like "mobile" or "desktop") for each scan. We do not store your IP address, browser fingerprint, or precise location. Finders are never tracked or identified.
