Transfer your pet to a new owner
When your pet moves to a new forever home, your Driyu pet profile and smart tag can go with them. Ownership Transfer hands the pet profile to the new owner inside Driyu, so the tag keeps working and nothing has to be set up from scratch.
What matters most
The profile moves
The pet profile and history move to the new owner inside Driyu.
The tag stays with the pet
The smart tag already on your pet keeps working and stays connected to the same profile through the transfer.
Private things stay private
Personal emergency contacts, expenses, and reminders stay with you, the previous owner.
Transfer vs. Sharing: which one do you need?
Choose Ownership Transfer when the pet is moving to a new owner for good. If the pet is still yours and someone needs to help, choose a sharing option instead. Here is how they compare.

Full Ownership Transfer
The new owner takes over the pet inside Driyu.
- Best when the pet is moving to a new owner for good.
- The new owner gets the pet full Driyu profile and history.
- The smart tag stays connected to the same pet.
- After the new owner accepts, they take over managing the pet.
- For temporary help, choose Family Sync instead.
Family Sync (Pro Beta)
The pet is still yours, but someone else can help.
- The pet is still yours.
- A trusted person can help.
- A Viewer can view the profile.
- A Guardian can help manage and edit the profile.
- You stay the owner.
- Access stays until you remove it, so you decide when help ends.
View-only sharing
For people who only need to see the pet info, not manage it.
- Best when someone just needs to see the pet to help or care for it.
- For example, someone who scans the tag or opens your Lost Mode page.
- They see a view-only recovery profile and cannot edit it.
- You choose which contact details appear; your home address and full medical records are never shown.
- No ownership change — you stay the owner.
Pet sitter or temporary helper
For a pet sitter or temporary helper, the pet is still yours, so Family Sync is the right fit. Add them as a Viewer or Guardian while you need help, and remove their access when you are done — access stays until you remove it. There is no separate sitter feature to set up. Go to Family Sync.
Vet, groomer, or other provider
For a vet, groomer, or other provider, Care Providers is a handy listing on your profile. If a provider needs to see or help with the profile, the confirmed path today is Family Sync: add them as a Viewer for view-only, or a Guardian if they need to help manage. A Guardian can edit, so choose the role that fits. See Care Providers and Family Sync.

How it works
Ownership Transfer is a short, guided flow inside Driyu. Here is what happens, step by step.
- Open Driyu and go to the pet you want to transfer.
- Choose Transfer ownership and enter the new owner email address.
- Driyu creates a secure transfer invitation for that email.
- The new owner opens the invitation and signs in, or creates a free Driyu account.
- The new owner confirms their email.
- The new owner accepts the transfer.
- The pet Driyu profile moves to the new owner, and the smart tag stays connected to the same pet.
Who it is for
Ownership Transfer is for a permanent change of owner: a foster dog going to a forever home, an adoption, a rehoming, a family member taking over permanent care, or when you can no longer keep your pet. For foster families, transferring keeps the pet setup ready for the forever home, so the smart tag and profile move with the pet and the new owner starts with everything already collected.
What moves, and what stays with you
Ownership Transfer gives the new owner the pet Driyu profile, photos, medical records, documents, and health history, plus the smart tag connection, so they start with everything already collected. Owner-specific details stay with you, the previous owner, and stay private: your personal emergency contacts, expenses, and reminders do not move to the new owner. Some Pro features may need a Driyu Pro plan to view or manage. Ownership Transfer covers your Driyu setup and is separate from legal adoption, shelter, or rescue paperwork.
Common questions
Should I transfer my pet or share access?
Transfer when the pet is permanently moving to a new owner. If the pet is still yours and someone needs to help, use Family Sync (Pro Beta) instead.
Can I use this for a pet sitter?
For a pet sitter, the pet is still yours, so the better fit is Family Sync. Add them while you need help and remove their access afterward. Ownership Transfer is meant for a permanent change of owner.
Can someone help manage my pet without becoming the owner?
Yes. Add them in Family Sync as a Guardian so they can help manage the pet. You stay the owner.
Can someone only view my pet information?
Yes. Add them in Family Sync as a Viewer for view-only access. And when someone scans the tag or opens your Lost Mode page, they see a view-only recovery profile they cannot edit. You choose which contact details appear, and your home address and full medical records are never shown.
What is the difference between Family Sync and Ownership Transfer?
Family Sync (Pro Beta) shares access while the pet stays yours, and you can remove it at any time. Ownership Transfer permanently makes someone else the owner.
If I transfer ownership, can I still edit the pet profile?
Once the new owner accepts, they take over managing the pet inside Driyu, so editing moves to them. Until they accept, the pet is still yours.
Does the smart tag stay with the pet?
Yes. The smart tag already on your pet keeps working and stays connected to the same pet profile through the transfer. The new owner does not have to order a replacement tag or wait for a new one to arrive.
Can I transfer to someone who does not have a Driyu account yet?
Yes. The new owner does not need a Driyu account first. When they accept, they sign in or create a free Driyu account and confirm their email.
What information transfers?
The pet profile, photos, medical records, documents, and health history move with the pet. Some Pro features may need a Driyu Pro plan to view or manage.
What information stays private?
Owner-specific details stay with you, the previous owner. Your personal emergency contacts, expenses, and reminders do not move to the new owner.
Is this legal adoption paperwork?
Ownership Transfer moves the Driyu profile, the tag connection, and app ownership inside Driyu. It is separate from legal adoption, shelter, or rescue paperwork, which you handle the usual way.
Is there a fee to transfer?
There is no fee to transfer a pet inside Driyu. Some Pro features may need a Driyu Pro plan to view or manage.
